CURSOR attended OSP’s 2nd Journalism Seminar

“When you write the success of the story, show it don’t tell it” –emphasized by the speaker, Mr. Ben Domingo, a professor from the UP College of Mass Communications in the 2nd Journalism Workshops and Seminar held at BulSU Hostel, Malolos City yesterday. This is a joint project of the Bulacan State University (BulSU)- Office of the Student Publications (OSP) and Pacesetter- the Official Publication of BulSU. Domingo lectured about News, Features, Editorial, Opinion, Sports writing and Copy reading under the theme: “ABC’s of Campus Journalism”. 125 participants from all Institutes and Colleges’ newsletters and publications around BulSU, and two other Universities in Central Luzon attended.

The 1st Journalism Workshop and Seminar sponsored by OSP and Pacesetter was held last 2005 to train the development of young campus journalists in their talents and skills. Mr. Romulo Mercado Jr., the director for OSP said that “This is held to hone the interest of the students in campus journalism”. The opening of the seminar was presided by Dr. Antonio Del Rosario, Vice President for Student Affairs with an opening remarks and an inspirational message from Mr. Danilo Faustino- Vice President for Academic Affairs. According to Evelyn Alera, managing editor of Pacesetter as the host publication, in a text message, this is held to refresh the writers about the basics of campus journalism. “Apparently, next year mag-tuloy-tuloy na ito and I’m looking forward to the next level of campus journalism seminar since this one was the very basic” Mercado added.

CURSOR- the official student publication of the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), participated the seminar and workshop with six of its members: Alicia Magtira [Editor-In-Chief], Mirasol Buenaflor [Associate Editor], Nelseilene Dela Paz [Managing Editor], Sheila Rose Valenzuela [Features Editor], Matt Anthony Jabonette [Literary Editor], Camille Jen Eusebio [Staff writer] and with their incoming adviser- Ms. Jane Suarez to further increase their knowledge in campus journalism.
