Jun Lozada and Other Bulacan Religious Sectors: In A Crusade For The Truth

An interfaith prayer sponsored by the Bulacan for Truth, Justice, Accountability, and Meaningful Change was held at the University of Regina Carmeli (URC) Gym on April 25 2008 and was attended by various religious, political, and business economic leaders and organizations. These organizations were wholesomely recognized through the program proceedings. Jesus Is Lord Church Marilao Chapter and Bocaue Chapter, St. Peter’s Parish, San Agustin Parish Baliuag, St. James Academy, Guiguinto Parish Church, United Methodist Church, United Church of the Philippines, and Immaculate Concepcion Parish of Malolos participated in the program.

From the Diocese of Caloocan, Bishop Deogracias Yñiguez proposed a discussion over the theme of this program which is The Culture of Truth and Integrity. Along the queue of speakers; there was also Bro. Eddie Villanueva- Philippine Jesus Is Lord Church leader. Others were Rev. Fr. Rollie Ang and Rev. Fr. Eric Iñigo (from the Roman Catholic Church) who promulgated the readings of the holy bible. The primary speakers were Pastor Lemuel Salen and Shalom Thomas (from the United Church of the Philippines) and Nancy Teodoro (JIL Church representative). Engr. Jun Lozada was the guest speaker.

At the first part of the program, a signature campaign was apprehended and signed by these people who were avidly united that moment in a white-cloth banner with a catchphrase in the upper part of it: Manindigan para sa katotohanan, katarungan, pananagutan at makabuluhang pagbabago. Another catchphrase under it was: The truth will set you free. The first signature to score the banner was of Engr. Jun Lozada and followed by the guests and many others. Another activity was also held and seized the people to share and spread the light of the candle until everybody has lighted up theirs. The guests and speakers conveyed their sentiments against the Arroyo regime especially the anomalous allegations that surrounded the Malcañang Palace, the corrupt government officials and other issues regarding how Filipinos were in affliction because of corrupt leaders. The rest of the religious personality guests expressed their sentiments through prayers. Bro. Eddie Villanueva scored through his lines and labeled it out to people about a $ 5.2 Billion kick-back of the President in accordance to the NBN-ZTE deal scandal.

The second part was when Engr. Lozada went up the stage and had spoken. He also shared sentiments regarding the issue which was the program’s inmost goal. He reiterated lines about the anomalies regarding the Administration and his sufferings for standing there alone, wide in the open, for the truth.

This was a moment where people were united for a common goal- their crusade for the truth. At the last part, there was a rally joined primarily by the youth and others who have been there in the program from the URC compound to the front of BulSU’s main gate and was subjected to a noise barrage as an end of the activity.

OJT, final defense, thesis, narrative report, user’s manual… Final defense, user’s manual, OJT, narrative report, thesis… Thesis, final defense, OJT, user’s manual, narrative report…

Sobra-sobrang distansya upang magkakilanlan.

Umiyak ka ‘no?”

“Hindi ah! Wag ka na ngang makialam! Tulungan mo akong tumayo dito!”

Sabi nga eh, “collect and collect… then select!”

“Ha? Bakit?”

“Ahm, pwede ba kitang makasama kumain? Sige na, sandali lang naman eh.”

“Ah, ok!”

[VIDEO EFFECTS: slow motion with Eraserheads’ “Tuwing Umuulan at Kapiling ka” playing as background music].

Tsk tsk tsk…

All this time, kaibigan lang pala ako para sa ’yo?”

--- AFTER 3 SECONDS—

“Sandali! sinabi ko bang ayaw ko, ha? Wala akong sinasabing ganun. Wala talaga.”

“Sige na nga…there’s no harm in trying naman eh…”

-THE END-

Meet --- The Man

You have definitely more than once passed him at the corridor but definitely as well, more than once did not care about whoever he is…

Early in the morning, he must assure that the third and fourth floor of the CICT building is exemplary clean and free from traces of don’t-care students whose leaving their trashes around seems to be their most inevitable hobby. Tiles and walls painted in white is what he cares most. According to him, the job in this new area is really tough, especially because he is doing it alone. It is very difficult to maintain the cleanliness of every corner but still he is giving his best. Shoes' prints on walls appear to be the usual sight for him and the usual cause of his headache.

At 43, he started working as a janitor in Bulacan State University. For twelve years now, he is not new anymore to the problem of cleanliness alongside with self-discipline of the crowd. But he did not mind the difficulty of his line of work because as what he has said, "Ang pamilya ko ang inspirasyon ko sa pagtatrabaho.

For us technology enthusiasts, what’s new is really hot! Even having a new building excite us. The first time that I had a chance to visit the new CICT building, there was still a scent of fresh paints slashed to walls. This place is well ventilated and is likely a window that would certainly give you a shot of an almost quarter view of life in university. But there is more to that. The new building also denotes "responsibility" over the place we often times utter to be our second home. Believing the thought that "it is his job anyway, he is being paid for that" does not make any sense. Working with him in maintaining the good ambiance of the new building and showing a little concern when put together means a lot not only for our own selves but for us being the steward of the creations around us.

Being him is really tough, it needs tons of patience and dedication to be an effective worker.

A sports-minded individual, a loving husband, a father and a diligent non-academic support of the Bulacan State University, meet The Man ---- Mr. Eduardo Navarette, 55 years old and loyal personnel of the university.

So the next time you are wandering around the CICT corridor and happen to see a hard-working man with an intense sense of conscientious outlook towards his toil for giving the best to his family, then you are actually seeing The Man!!!

A Farewell to a Friend…

A fleeting look to the Graduation Program where list of graduates are printed, our attention was caught by a name of student with a word inside a bracket "deceased"…

I have attended the CICT Graduation Ceremony last April 08, though I was very excited seeing my friends marching and giving their obeisance above the stage, I cannot help but to feel a slash of remorse for a student who I may say, supposedly there as one of the graduates.

–Jedmerick Bernardo, Mark’s friend and classmate.

In behalf of the CICT Dean, Faculty, Students, Classmates and Friends, Cursor
Family would like to extend our deepest regret and sorrow for the demise of

MARK ANTHONY C. LUCAS
has been a Computer Technology student, BIT 2I…

You are gone…
But for us you never left…
God has you in His keeping,
We have you in our hearts…

Erratum

I personally apologize for I have not included some important information in my article in the opinion section of Cursor 2nd semester issue entitled: “EXPLORERS OR FIREFOX?”

According to Mr. Renato Leandicho (last year’s CICT Sports Coordinator together with Mr. Arvin Pagsibigan), he was the first to suggest to have the CICT Teams' name be changed because of recommendations from other students of the University with a kid show of GMA 7- 'Dora the Explorer.' Apparently, the Sports Coordinators acted upon the recommendations. Mr. Arvin Pagsibigan was the first who suggested the name “FIREFOX” during their brainstorming. The idea was immediately brought up to the Dean of the College, Prof. Fausto Hilario. As of now, there will still be a discussion with the faculty for the name they want. The Dean said it will be brought up by a process, maybe, through election. As of Mr. Leandicho’s statement, they were sure about it that next year, CICT Teams will use FIREFOX as their name to compete for Sports inside and outside the University.

Another thing is that, 6 years ago, when Dr. Vicky Valenzuela suggested the name EXPLORERS to be called our ICE teams, their T-shirts were printed EXPLORERS, (the whole exact word ‘explorers’ was there.) This wasn’t included in my article published in our 2nd issue. A faculty member that time, according to Mr. Leandicho, who was Mr. Skid Dela Peña, issued a logo of a small letter ‘e’ on the top left corner of the T-shirt which also symbolizes Explorers. This logo was used by the Faculty for the team uniform afterwards.

As I completed the survey material for this article, in reality, most students really wanted a remake and to be put FIREFOX in.

“We call him Maning and he is a member of a dance troupe who dances ‘maglalatik’; this courageous young boy who put belt in his loose pants and eat rice wrapped in banana leaves for lunch.”- Dr. Soledad M. Sanchez, Dr. De Jesus’ former mentor.

Dr. Nona S. Ricafort- CHED Commissioner and Chair, BulSU-BOR read the appointment, administration of the oath of office and words of challenge. I Want Chocolates!!!

When I came home bruised, loser of a baseball game, have cuts during my Basic Home Economics class, feeling ill about losing my favorite toy, upset about a friend who never share his sandwich during recess, worried about the glass I have broken this morning, guilty of wrong moves I have done the whole day, got a failing grade from a long test, embarrassed with question I failed to answer during the class recitation, shaking and losing confidence over the declamation competition --- these are the things that I consider failures and pungent jiffy during my childhood days…And with those bitter times, there is always one thought that is all ready enclosed in my mind “I WANT CHOCOLATES!”

What’s with chocolates that made me feel fine is something that is a bit misty for me until now. Every time I feel that I want to run with tears or I am scared of the unknown, I crave to have beside me a chocolate chip, chocolate bar or chocolate drink. (I actually bought three packs of chocolate chips, chocolate cookies and chocolate drink before I stepped into the NB2 for the Editorial Board Qualifying Exam a couple of weeks ago.)

A bite of chocolate seems to be the first aid for my crushed trust, a healer for my stained hopes and a companion to lighten my disappointments. It is pretty obvious, I really like chocolates…

But come to think of it, is it really chocolates that made me feel well?

I just realized just now, that what I really want during the bitter and failing moments of my life is not really chocolates but SOLUTION. As a child, psychologically speaking, I visualize chocolates as something that has the ability to comfort and provide me even with a squat flash of relief. But with a deep introspection I have done (while trying to sink in with the fact that I will be the new Editor-in-Chief of this publication), I understand the connection of my childhood and my maturity period. The reality is “It is not chocolate that I crave to have, it is the feeling of being relieved with apt changes” – changes of the bitter moods, changes of the bitter tastes, changes of the usual traps that surround me, changes of the vague future that trying to blur the vision of every “I” in this university. Today, I become conscious that it is not chocolates that will satiate my thirst of relief but SOLUTIONS equipped with ACTIONS.

Yes, I am no longer a kid on the street playing patintero over my destiny or hide-and-seek of truth and falsehood. I am a grown up now, and I want reform against the silly games those villains had taught me. I am no longer a cry-type little girl that would stop having tantrums by those false candies being offered by gangsters and bullies… I am grown up and I want changes (more than my longing of having another chocolate bar).

With this realization, I would not anymore offer anyone as well as my fellow students with chocolates--- but instead, I would like them to have wisdom and freedom to fight for what is right and due to everyone. I am all ready tired and used in playing pitik bulag and takip silim…TODAY, we shall start living with our eyes wide open. We shall start seeing things in black and white, we shall start playing FAIRLY ENOUGH, MAN ENOUGH.

We want changes, we want solutions, we want progress, and we shall start building it in CURSOR and in our college! Care to join? Then we need disciplined volunteers, and you are IN!

CURSOR Welcomes its New Editorial Board
